For Two Weeks, He Only Said Six
He called it a game. She stopped playing.
Lana has never been able to keep quiet. She narrates her entire day, answers one sentence with ten, and has been called Little Tang Monk since she was fifteen. Most people get tired of her. Julian never did. For seven years he told her he loved the sound of her voice, and she built her whole world on that one sentence. Then comes the week her life comes apart: a car crash, a miscarriage, her mother's stroke. Every message she sends him comes back as a single character. Six. He says it is a bet with her best friend, a joke meant to cure her of talking. Slowly, Lana begins to understand what the joke is really telling her.
