How to Read Short Stories Online Without an App

## You do not need to install anything

CueKiss stories open in a browser tab. There is no app store step, no download, no account wall in front of the first chapter. Opening a book page and reading the first chapter takes one click.

The reason this matters is friction. Most reading apps lose half their visitors between "I want to try this" and "I have installed a 90MB app and made a password". A browser cannot fix a bad story, but it removes everything standing in front of a good one.

## What is free and what is not

The first chapter of every story is free and complete — not a teaser that cuts off mid-sentence. That is usually between 900 and 1,100 words, enough to know whether the voice works for you.

Past the first chapter, reading requires a subscription. Two things follow from that, and both are deliberate:

- **Paid chapter text is never served to the web.** When you are not entitled to a chapter, the server returns an error containing no text at all. It is not hidden by the page; it never arrives. - **The free chapter is not a trap.** It is a real chapter with a beginning, a turn and an ending, so that stopping there is a decision rather than a frustration.

## Reading in the browser versus on a phone

Both work; the reader is the same product. Browser reading is better for a laptop lunch break and for sharing a link to a specific story. The mobile experience is the same pages in a narrower column.

Your reading position and your interactive progress are stored separately. Playing a scene in a story does not move your bookmark, and vice versa.

## If you want to go further

The interactive mode takes the same story and puts you inside it: you enter as a character and talk with the people who live there. Entry is from any chapter, so you do not have to finish the book first. That is documented on its own page.
